Hi.
I have an MD3620F with two groups of SAS disks: 600GB 10Krpm HotPlug and 1TB 7,2Krpm HotPlug.
Now, the manager of Powervault says: "Physical disk predicted failure detected Event Priority: Warning Component Type: Physical Disk Component Location: Enclosure 0, Slot 0" and I understood that disk 0 - SAS 600GB 10K is going to be unusable. So, I ordered a couple of SAS 600GB disks to substitute the predicted failure. Just a problem occurred. My vendor said that SAS 600GB 10Krpm are now unavailable and he proposed a disk having the same capacity but 15Krpm instead of 10Krpm.
My question: is it possible to substitute in MD3820F a SAS disk with 600GB 10Krpm with a 600Gb 15Krpm? Thanks.
Hello All
I have 3 of these libraries and I have gotten the following error on two of the libraries:

I cannot see the tape drive media using Unitrends Enterprise Backup archive option. Moreover the SAS card LED's are not lighting up on my Dell Poweredge R730 to the Tape drive. Has anyone got a solution on how i can connect this TL2000?
Hi, i have customer who want to confirm if PowerVault MD3400 can support Oracle Vm and Oracle Linux.
He will connect MD3400 to his R630 server,.
Can please help to check ?
Thanks.
Have a MD3220 with two SAS controllers. Both controllers assigned static IP's (172.16.10.x). Have a PE R610 server loaded with win 2012 R2 and have MDSM loaded on there and its connected to same network as the SAN. Every few hours the software loses connection to the SAN and i cant figure out why.. I have to right click on the SAN in the software and remove it.. then do a new discovery and it adds it back in. Once i do this it shows optimal for a few hours until it loses connection and says unresponsive again.. What gives?
we have MD3000i and yesterday three of the hard disks failed in one of my disk group. i replaced them with new hard disks, updated the hard disk firmware and initialized the hard disks. but the problem is the Disk-group says Partially complete disk group. i need some help from anyone. we have very important critical data, which we do not want to loose.
Appreciate if anyone can help ASAP.
Hi,
I have MD3620i and using the software PowerVault Modular Disk Storage Manager. Then it damaged in the disk. One of the hot spare disk is turned on and synchronized, the status mode - Hot spare in-use. Damaged disc in the above. Software is highlighted in red with crossed cross.
Please hint how to do to drive Hot spare assumed the role of the injured, and the new drive, which will be replaced let it be a hot spare.
I care, so that the data automatically from the current hot spare disk are not synchronized back to the new drive.
Regards;
We have a Powervault nx3000 from 2010 with storage 2008. Will this server work with 4TB drives? I'm not finding any good info on this.
We have an MD3860i with 30 discs that I need to add more to. It is unclear from the documentation if I have to disconnect the iSCSI connections and take the SAN offline in order to add these drives.
What is the process for adding new drives to an MD3860i?
Thanks,
Aaron
Did this issue ever get resolved or worked on? We have what appears to be a similar issue. I have (3) Dell R620's with Dual port 10GB cards connected to (2) Dell 8024 10GB switches. They are all running VMware 5.5. The MD3620i is dual controller, all (4) 10GB NICS are connected. The MD3620 has 20 1.2TB 10K drives configured in a drive pool. When the one of the controllers in the MD3620i failed on Wednesday, all the virtual servers continued to function, but we had major problems with disk latency on one I/O intensive virtual guest. As soon as we replaced the failed controller, the issue went away. From the Disk performance monitor in MDSM, we never see more than about 250MB/s and 3000 IOPS on the array in total, so this should easily be handled by a single controller.
I would appreciate some kind of response here, as there does not seem to have been anything posted on the board.
We have two TL2000's, an old one with LTO-5 drives and a new one with LTO-7 drives. Neither library has the Library-Managed Encryption option enabled as we didn't purchase it for either one. Our backup SW is Backup Exec 2014 and it supports the Application-Managed Encryption option, which is set on both TLs.
I have a number of archived tapes (LTO-5) on which the jobs were encrypted using BE's "hardware, otherwise software" encryption option. The presumption is that, if the LME option (hardware) wasn't available on the TL, Backup Exec would use AME (software) for these jobs, and since the key is kept within BE, the tapes would be able to be read on any PVTL unit with drives that support the tape generation.
These tapes can be read perfectly fine with the old TL, but they fail basic media catalog operations on the new TL (hardware errors being returned to BE) and cannot be read at all, so nothing can be recovered. However, I've found that if I duplicate the backup sets to "software" encrypted jobs on the old TL, the new jobs can be read on the new TL.
So it appears as if the old TL is performing LME even though we didn't purchase the option. Is that even possible? I've noticed that, in the web interface for the old TL, when these encrypted tapes are being read, the drive status changes to "decrypting," which I thought wouldn't happen unless LME were enabled. I've attached the trace of the new TL during when the encrypted tape was being read and can provide log dumps if someone wants to look into what the TLs are doing.
I was thinking that purchasing LME on the new TL would allow us to read the tapes, even though it's not on the old TL. But I don't want to spend the $$$ and find out that it doesn't work. and then also have to spend the time and $$$ on an alternative, like buying LTO-6 media and uplevelling the archives from LTO-5. Is it possible to get trials of that capability or somehow determine whether that would even work before buying it?
I have a MD3000 that's been running completely trouble free for the past many years (other than occasionally a drive failure). It's connected to a single host with each RAID module connected to a unique Dell SAS5/e controller. Each power supply is connected to a different UPS. The firmware is version 07.35.39.64.
Less than a week ago the unit experienced an event that seem to cause one of the RAID modules to reset. During this event, an Exchange server noted in its logs that some IOs did complete but took an abnormally long time. Fast-forward to today and seemingly the exact same sequence of events has happened again but this time the other RAID module seems to have reset. The same Exchange server again reported delayed IOs. Even more troubling, later today at a moment when there were no reported MD3000 issues, the Exchange server also reported, "The database engine attempted a clean write operation on page 4167892 of database xxxx. This acton was performed in an attempt to correct a previous problem reading from the page. " This is the first message of its kind and would seem to indicate there's an underlying storage issue.
The only thing common about the first set of events (few days ago) and today's events is that both occurred around the same time in the morning hours (6-7:30am).
I am attaching the events from today. I also have a support bundle if that would be helpful. Without knowing more, I am inclined to purchase an extra RAID module and power supply from eBay. The only hint that there may be a power supply problem is because of two isolated events from today indicating the supplies changed to optimal (but no message about degraded or failed). There were no known UPS or power problems at the time so it's a mystery.
The MD3000 itself has been running for a very long time. I saw the "sample period" as being more than 840 days but now both modules are back to zero because of the recent resets. I am considering shutting the entire system down and power cycling the MD3000.
I once had a SAS5/E card fail because of bad capacitors. Is it possible the MD3000 is starting to experience something similar? I find it odd that both RAID controllers seemingly experienced the same trouble within a few days of each other. If the MD3000 is powered off completely, can I safely remove the RAID modules and open them to inspect the capacitors?
Please see attached log. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am looking to download library firmware file and Drive firmware file for the PowervaultTL2000.
can someone help me from where i can download it? i couldn't find the option to download the files from "drivers and download" location
I have a PowerVault NX3200 NAS that is running Windows Storage Server 2012 Standard, and I would like to know how I can obtain an upgrade for the OS to Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Standard. I tried to use a Window Server 2012 R2 Standard disk but the upgrade was denied.
We recently moved a server from our data center into the office to be a development server, but our MD3220 started having connection issues. On Wednesday, I didn't see the storage array at all in VMWare, and when I look at MDSM, I see that the storage array has a failed virtual disk. I verified that all the drives were Optimal, but now i'm not sure how to continue.
In the event log, im seeing the following distinct errors:
12/20/16 12:51:00 PM | devmgr.v1084api04.sam.eventviewer.EventViewerJDialog$EventPriorityObject@2aa85a9d | Virtual Disk | Virtual Disk 1 | Virtual disk failed |
12/15/16 12:04:18 PM | devmgr.v1084api04.sam.eventviewer.EventViewerJDialog$EventPriorityObject@6b549d99 | Disk Pool | Disk Pool 1 | Disk pool capacity depleted |
There isn't anything actually using 5TB worth of space on the virtual disk, and there isn't any more room on the storage to expand it to see if that resolves the issue.
This server is unfortunately out of warranty.
Does anyone have ideas? :)
