Hello everybody. Sorry for my english if there are mistakes and sorry if wrong part of forum.

I have dell md1000 and first power supply seems to fail, so did order new power supplies and installed one. Unit worked fine and fans werent working on full speed like jet. but couple days ago it started again. Checked power supplies and found that on first there no DC led (according to documentation).

If anyone experienced that issue before, what might be a solution? Bad midplane board or ........ I really dont even know what else is bad there =( power supplies for sure are out of scope.

MD3800i - Cannot Use All 12 Disks In MD1200 Expansion Shelf For Disk Pool

I recently added an MD1200 expansion shelf to our MD3800i SAN (enclosure 1). The MD1200 has 12 8TB near line SAS disks and I would like to configure the entire shelf as a single disk pool.

the problem .... despite creating the pool manually, no matter what I do, it will not allow me to use disk 11 (the 12th disk). It stays unassigned. The disk shows optimal and in no way does it appear defective.

I have another MD3800i, with 12 8TB disks in enclosure 0 and it is able to use all 12 disks.

Is it possible the problem is related to the fact that enclosure 0 on the MD3800i with the problem is configured as a disk Group, not a pool and that the disk group has a hot spare configured? Does it show how think it needs to reserve the disk in enclosure 1 for hot spare coverage for the disk group? it does not show as being used fro hot spare ,,, but  ,,,,

Scratching my head on this one.

Hello -

I just got a "Degraded Physical Disk Channel" error along with (8) "Individual Physical Disk - Degraded Path" errors.  All drives are online and present.  Is it best to clear the stats and manually make it optimal again?  I can provide the support bundle if needed.

Thanks for the help!

TL2000 - finally died?

$
0

I know it is a long shot, but I have to ask.

When I power up my TL2000 PowerVault, it powers on.  However, the lights on the front don't quite light up. From left to right,

Power - not lit
Clean drive - dimly lit amber
Drive error - dimly lit amber
Error - dimly lit amber

The dimly lit ones may only be picking up light from something behind the, so I am not 100% they are on.

The display has the following on it:

Startup
Firmware Rev:     9t30
Drive:                   2
I/O Station:          000344L4

The display never changes for matter how long I leave the unit on.

The robot arm goes through its initial motions, but the display is the same all the way through.

Has this unit finally given up the ghost once and for all?  It is fairly old with a lot of miles on it.

Thanks for any help!

MD3620F Cache enabled but currently suspended

Hi,

we have an MD3620F, dual controller, which we have updated the firmware to the latest version available in the DELL website.

Details below :

Current configuration
Firmware version: 08.20.24.60

Appware version: 08.20.24.60

Bootware version: 08.20.24.60

NVSRAM version: N26X0-820890-908

Ever since the update, the system has been performing very poorly. wWe noticed that the virtual disks write cache is suspended as seen below:

Read cache: Enabled

Write cache: Enabled (currently suspended)

Write cache without batteries: Disabled

Write cache with mirroring: Enabled (currently suspended)

The system is marking everything as optimal and batteries are o.k

We have reset the controllers one by one and even performed a whole system shutdown. The problem is still there.

If we tick the box to enable Write cache without batteries, the system performs normally.

We also did a mass disable and enable of both read and write cache.

Any help in resolving this would is appreciated as we have run out of ideas.

Thanks in advance

Recycle disks from faulty MD3000i

$

Hello everyone.

I'm stuggling to find some way to wipe the disk group configuration from disks removed from a MD3000i. They were arranged in RAID-5 with 10 disks.

Now 6 of them are inserted into a MD3200i and they still are expecting the other 4 to be inserted so they could start recovering data. The status in the MD Storage Manager is: Contingent - preparing for import.

There isn't any important data in these disks so the old array could be destroyed, but the option to delete it is grayed out.

Is there some option to do that in MD Storage Manager? Or this should be accomplished using some command line tool?

Thanks for the help!

MD1200 Power Vault is in Fault State

Hello,

We have an MD1200 Power Vault, where the enclosure status LED is flashing amber indicating that it is in "fault state".  The device is out of warranty.  What can I do to resolve this issue short of buying a new one?  If buying a new one is the resolution, so be it, but I would like to attempt to resolve it in other ways first.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

2012 R2 server does not see TL2000's LTO7 drive

Hello,

I have TL2000 - service tag "Removed by Moderator" tape library connected to Dell blade center (R630 servers) via SAN - for test purposes with "all can see everything" settings, one path only.

I am able to see corect WWN of library and drive, but only library can be seen in Device manager. On first inicialization there was "Unknown tape library", when I gave it the drivers according the service tag - there was none on Dell resources, only available driver is from IBM - now library reporting itself as "IBM TotalStorage 3573 Tape Library" - but the library only, no drive.

Through Veeam B&R software I am able to view tapes and with proper barcodes but no drive is available for me. TL2000 has following settings:

New MD1000 with 15x2TB sas drives questions....

$

0

Hey All,

Recently became the proud owner of a used MD1000.  Hooked it up to R610 with external PERC 6/E card.  Updated all the firmware R610 + MD1000.  So I installed the drives (they are used BTW).  Created a RAID5 VG with 1 global hot spare.  So here are my questions:

1)  I went into this knowing I'd be using aftermarket drives (I mean where can you get an enterprise external array with 15x2TB disks for $700).  I knew I would have to do minimum raid5.  This is for homelab, but I still want reliability.  I'm gonna be putting family pics and stuff on this.  Is raid5 good enough?

2) If a drive fails, how long for a rebuild?  1 day?  1 week?  4 hours?  How is can I calculate this?

Thanks...

I have an ML6020 that is giving me a headache with mtx on ubuntu server (kernel 4.12).

when i try and load i get the following -

mtx -f /dev/sg19 next 0

load 15, load 15 0, load 15 /dev/nst0 0, next 0, etc all give same result, 15 is the first element with media reported to mtx.  Issue happened on Firmware 690G.GS002 (LTO5 firmware GN94 on FC drive) and on 589G.GS001/B6W0 (the version currently loaded).

I've read that MTX has problems with loaders in sequential mode, but I cant find anywhere how to even see what mode the library is in.  Any ideas?
